They weren’t restricting in any way, which I have heard many complain about.

Currently Crafting: Granny Square Blanket

I recently started crocheting a granny square blanket for our master bedroom.  I haven't made a granny square blanket in many, many years.  I think the part that got me was having to constantly change colors.  I much prefer to be able to cruize along crocheting while watching a tv show in the evenings or when we are on our way to visit others.

After seeing granny square blankets all over Pinterest, and Flickr, I decided to make another one.  This time, I selected a variegrated yarn.  Noro has a beautiful collection called Silk Garden.  The collection comes in many different color variations, so there is sure to be a color-way to match your decor.

Noro Silk Garden is made of 45% Silk, 45% Kid-Mohair, and 10% Lambs Wool.  It is a worsted weight, hand dyed yarn, and is one of their most popular yarns.  Once you see the beautiful colors and start working with it, I am sure you will love it as much as I do!

For the blanket shown above, I ordered 12 balls of yarn, and a size H crochet hook.

Aim True with Kathryn Budig Yoga for the New Year

1. Beginner's Practice (25 Minutes): Great for those just starting out. The sequences are challenging yet gentle enough for beginners.  Although this is not a relaxing yoga routine, the poses are held briefly so that you don't become too fatigued.  Kathryn is easy to follow, allowing you the ability to really focus on your breathing.

2. Authentic Flow (45 Minutes): Once you are more confident and have built up strength, the Authentic Flow will add another level of challenge to your yoga workout.  This sequence allows you to improve your balance and flexibility with a longer, intermediate flow.

3. Power Up Your Core (10 Minutes):  In the next few months, I, like everyone else will be working extra hard to tone our core!  Kathryn has included this wonderful 10 minute core workout to help you get your "power house" back in shape.

Sticking to a fitness routine that works with a busy lifestyle can be difficult.  It is important to remember that living an active healthy lifestyle is crucial to feeling your best.  A commitment of 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week makes a great start.  

This year I plan to visit the local yoga studio twice a week.  It is so nice to practice with others, and share the energy that yoga creates.  The ability to hold the poses longer, and move deeper into the poses is so motivating.  Not to mention gaining the ability to focus on breathing and letting go the negative energy while practicing can make you feel so much better, both physically and mentally.

American Girl: A Must-Have for Every Girl

So for her American Girl doll I made sure to get her the extra clothing so she can change her dolls outfits over and over and they can enjoy their party time and dinner time together.

Get Set for New Years with BUTTER LONDON

Crochet Owl Hat Pattern

Crochet hats are all the rage this year.  Whether they are being used for a photo shoot or to keep a little's head warm your sure to find them everywhere!  They are a must have . . . from a simple solid color crochet hat, one with flowers adorning it, and even animal inspired hats there are so many to choose from.

One of my fave styles is the owl hat, so I decided to give it a try at writing my own pattern.  The pattern below was first shown on Chic Style Modern, a close friend of mine.  If you haven't visited her site, be sure to stop by and share some love!

The hat shown in the photo's was worked with Lion Brand Wool-Ease.  Any medium weight yarn would work nicely, however I suggest using wool so that the hat is warmer.

BRAIDS:

Cut a total of 18 pieces of yarn 4 feet/144 inches long. (Use less strands for less weight). Fold yarn in half, and join through the bottom of earflap until all 18 strands are connected.  Create a knot at the top of the strands, just below the earflap.  Separate strands into three bunches and braid. Continue all the way to end of yarn, and tie a knot at the bottom to secure braid. Trim ends to make even. 

Repeat on other side.

EYES:

1. CH 4, join with SL ST.
2. CH 1, SC 8 times in ring.  SL ST into CH 1.
3. CH 1, ** 2 SC in next SC** repeat to end.  SL ST into first SC. (16 SC)
4. CH 1, ** 1 SC into next SC** repeat to end.  SL ST into first SC.
5. CH 1, ** 2 SC into next SC** repeat to end.  SL ST into first SC. (32 SC)
6. CH 1, ** 1 SC into next SC** repeat to end. SL ST into first SC.
7. Fasten off.

BEAK:

1. CH 5. Turn.
2. SC in 2nd CH from hook.  SC in next CH, repeat to end. Turn.

My weekend in photos

Do you still believe in Santa? We sure do, and we had a wonderful time celebrating all things holiday this past weekend!  We dropped by to watch the annual holiday parade, stopped in for a visit with Santa, and topped the afternoon off with a fun time at Chuck E. Cheese.

I just love the glimmer in his eyes, as he watched Santa arrive . . .

And where would we be without a little brotherly love this holiday season?  Yes, this was a rare moment.  One of those you have to capture because they don't happen that often.
